According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state's West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.
Meanwhile we are at war because Iraq MIGHT attack or fund an attack?

Sure did wipe that attack on the US embassy in Greece off the media radar quickly...wonder why that is.

They are probably spending more on the CID investigation than that "anonymous" phone call claiming Marxist revolt. These national guardsmen ROE are to take cover and call the border patrol. I wouldn't be surprised if the only ammo they carried were sand in the barrel of their rifles. As to wither this was the "actual" and "certified" Mexican military, who knows? These attackers were probably on a 4 day meth high in the desert, shooting at anything that moves. Perhaps, they were probing for a major shipment of illicit gold.
I think the Athens attack had more to do with the raiding of the Iranian embassy in Irbil. Rather sloppy move, but, not that the U.S. cares much about motif in geopolitics these days. A three legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen lake can't do much else.
