Friedman for your consideration

Higher gas taxes?

105 comments:

John said...

I'm not sure no politican would get elected today if he advocates higher gas taxes to pay for alternative energy upgrades.

Tom Friedman is I think right but it would take great political courage which isn't around in our elected officals today.

Anonymous said...

Yeh i agree with you John it never seems appropriate for an elected official to serve the betterment of his constituents. Some people call it courage i like to think its called duty.

But then again i wouldnt elect an official knowing he would raise taxes on anything.

I agree with both of you here. Elected officials are pretty weak these days and we've got enough taxes already.

But I think that people who want to create/raise taxes would and do get elected.

The way these big oil companies run Americas energy you would be a god damn fool to support a 1 dollar gas tax. That 140 billion would somehow go to the hands beaurcrats which would disripute the money to the oil companies. Freidman doesn't explain in his article how much money we'd save if we pulled out of Afghanistan. Instead or raising everyones taxes lets have a common sense policy. With the money saved we could invest in alernative fuel.

Amor Vincit Omnia

Silent leges inter arma
Inhumanitus omni aetate molesta est
Pulvis et umbra sumus
Ubi solitudenum facium pacem appellant

Nec tecum possum viviere nec sine te

Amor vincit omnia!

Love Conquers All

The laws are silent when surrounded by weapons
Inhumanity is harmful in every age
We are nothing but a bit of dust and shadow
They make a wasteland and call it peace
When they are silent, they cry out
They condemn what they do not understand
He who suffers before he needs to, suffers more than he needs to
I can't live with you and I can't live without you
Anger is a brief fit of madness
Love conquers all!

Prodigy. The MacArthurs are after all "genius" grants.

Mentor. Consider this. In 1999 there were 32 MacArthur winners. Fifteen were women. In the annals of human accomplishment, there is no precedent for that kind of female representation. Most of the recipients also have a distinctly left-wing flavor to their work. Others are positive flakes. Citations for the awards include phrases like "leader in the struggle for human rights in southern Africa," "scholar of race relations," "a strong socio-political sensibility in her works" etc. One of the 1995 geniuses, the feminist musicologist Susan McClary is described in the award announcement as "a musicologist who explores the relationship between human experiences and music and relates the creation of musical works to their social context." One of her major discoveries is that classical music is full of phallic themes. John Leo writing in U.S. News and World Report, observed "A lot of the [MacArthur] award winners are either ideologues . . . or low-luster laborers in the traditional vineyards of the left." I am afraid, Prodigy, that if you are looking for an antiseptic link to intelligence, the MacArthur grantees will not do.

Awhile back MTJ asked Richard Gage on air if he made any money speeking to 9-11 boofers. You know those boofers i was refering to.

Well he lied to you MTJ, well im confident he did. I just got a breakdown of how much richard gage made at an event in Boston of this year. We are still digging around for his tax info to prove my accusations are true and this is a small piece of evidence showing it to be so.

Over at richardgageboston.org

$500 – Speaker Fee
$166 – Airfare

He lied to you MTJ or atleast he is getting paid now. I bet he got paid last year too and the year before.

Live your life

Please remember that we can't save the world all by ourselves, we do what we can and hope that others do too
But don't forget, we can't change it all but we sure can change ourselves and have effects on much more

Please remember to make time to fight the good fight before the fighting comes to you
But don't forget to live your life so you don't forget what you're fighting for

Please remember to keep listening even when you're trying not to get caught up in the hype
But don't forget not to get too caught up in hype of a different type

Living your life is growing fresh and not too ripe

Please remember that the roses can smell pretty sweet
But don't forget about the many other things that are good

Please remember to look for the day when hating is mostly obsolete
But don't forget that sometimes simple things can be easily misunderstood

Please remember to learn, move on and not to dwell too much on what has happened since it is gone
But don't forget, echoes from the past can make waves into the future coming on

Living your life is learning to bless and embracing the dawn

Where I come from, a boofer is someone who, regardless of political views, smokes crack or meth. And for an architect and/or engineer, $500 is not a lot of money at all.

I read the Time article. I'm not sure there is anything in it that is any more "evil" than the rest of this crazy-ass world. I think that if some people would like to stay separate, they should be free to do so. Native Americans got along okay staying in separated tribes and nations for a very long time. I think that this rush to smoosh everybody together too quickly is not such a great idea. For a Biblical example: The Tower of Babel.
Just look at this world, people still kill each other over stupid shit. Are they really ready to come together? I would argue that the evidence points to a big fat NO! I think that people, for the most part, are not understanding enough of each other and it would probably take another thousand years or so to combine peoples successfully in some sort of world order, though I still think that would be a bad idea. People can accomplish stuff and stay somewhat separate.
It's like, what do people really want anyway. I think that most people want to spend time together and help each other; work towards accomplishing goals and pursuing happiness; perhaps raise families and help create a little better place for generations to come; And generally just enjoy life.
I don't see why we gotta be all unified for people to get what they want out of life. I've got this crazy idea that we could stay separate and stay locally sustainable and independent and how about just make an agreement not to do stuff like kill each other.
There are plenty of resources available but things like greed and stupidity tend to make them unavailable.

From the article:
"What is the danger Whitopias pose to America as a whole?
You can call me old-fashioned, but I'm an integrationist. A democracy can't function at its optimum unless all members are integrated as full members.
A community full of like-minded people tends to enforce their own view of the world and close off opposingviewpoints."
- So we should all come together into one big close-minded community instead of a bunch of little ones. I don't live in a "whitopia" but I used to, and I wouldn't move back there if they paid me. It's just not my cup of tea but if it is yours then I say go for it and enjoy.

That's just my 2cents.

- I haven't been able to find any actual studies that confirm the effectiveness of vitamin d in preventing flus and i guess i'm not the only one. Of course i haven't been able to find any actual studies that confirm the effectiveness of flu shots either.

*
"CDC estimated that about 36,000 people died of seasonal flu-related causes each year, on average, during the 1990s in the United States. This figure includes people dying from complications of seasonal flu."
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/us_flu-related_deaths.htm
"As of 4 October 2009, worldwide there have been more than 375,000 laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1 2009 and over 4500 deaths reported to WHO."
http://www.who.int/feeds/entity/csr/disease/swineflu/en/rss.xml

- And apparently more deaths are caused by regular old seasonal flus?

If anyone has some good verifiable info about this stuff I would greatly appreciate it. Thanx

A Complete Stranger

Yesterday, A man in a far away country,
Volunteered to have a painful procedure,
For a woman he doesn’t know,
In a land he has never seen.

I want this man to know,
Though all are promised anonymity,
That a family here in the States,
Holds him in the highest esteem.

We embrace you, dear stranger,
For the gift of life you have selflessly given,
To not only my sister,
But to all who love her, and hold her so dear.

"In ages past, our old ones were the storytellers. This was the way things were passed along to the generations that followed. For this reason the aged people made it a point to remember every detail so they could relate it at a later time. They were the word and picture carriers making history and spirtual values alive and important. In recent times we have made our old ones think they are not so important. We spoof their stories and make them feel foolish. The truth is that we are ignorant of what is precious and how to 'a da li he li tse di -- appreciate age. Rigidity can creep in and set even the young mind if there are no soft memories, no laughter, no times too deep for tears. Age is grace -- a time too valuable to waste."

I think that it's pretty crazy that some people just love to hate on Christians. Especially the ones that love to preach about over-simplification of issues, polarization, people not caring about each other, and folks not taking action to make a better place to live. Christians and Catholics do a ton of stuff to help their fellow man. Christian charities are all over this country and the world feeding, sheltering, educating, and just helping people in general. Granted, some people who claim to be Christians don't always act like Christians but who's perfect? Some people like W even claim to be Christians but clearly are not. I think that if more people actually adhered to Christian principles, those who believe and even those who don't, this country and this world would be a much nicer place to live in. Love your neighbor, do unto others, those attitudes can definitely encourage positive growth and have beautiful effects. I've known people who aren't Christians who DO reflect some Christian-like attitudes, and they don't have to act all jealous and spiteful and hate on other people's beliefs. If you are someone who chooses to hate on a specific group of people that believes love is the answer, then you need to wakeup and recognize that YOU are someone who is polarized and YOU are a hater. I choose to love haters. Sometimes i get pissed off just like everyone else. But i also choose not to attack a whole group of people for the actions of individuals and i also recognize that some of those actions can be perpetuated by people who aren't even truly a part of that group. If you feel the need to attack me personally for my opinions on this issue then bring it on, at least that would be a step in the right direction but i gotta warn ya, i just might pray for you.

i wish that things could be different
i wish i knew what to say
i wish i knew what to do

i hope that i can figure out what to do and what to say
i hope that things will be much better than they have been
i truly desire to give and love and help out too

i understand so much yet i understand so very little
sometimes i feel like i know too much
mostly i feel like i don't know enough

no matter how hard i try it never seems to be good enough to get by
i want to do so much yet i end up doing so little
complex things can seem so simple to me yet simple things can seem so tough

i know i'm not simply lazy, some people just aren't good at some things
i've done plenty of things that i didn't want to but apparently not well enough
things that could take a lifetime to master

i know i'm not a victim but i also know that i can't be perfect either
i just wish i could mostly do the things that i AM good at
instead of living life as a disaster

is it really too late to for me to find my way
i don't believe that
i won't believe that

i've been so many places
for once i'd like to be able to see where i'm going
instead of just seeing where i'm at

i hope some day to find my place here
in a world that i don't quite understand
the way things work have seemed quite odd to me even when i was just a pup

my head and my heart simultaneously overflow with clarity and confusion
at times i feel trapped in the dark inside my own mind like a dream
i just want to wake up

6. Prosperity. The most prosperous nations, according to the Legatum report, are Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. These fairly homogenous European countries are the teachers' pets of global rankings, often appearing near the top because of right-sized economies and a relatively small underclass.

For a huge economy like America's, a No. 9 ranking is still respectable. And part of the drop from last year's No. 4 spot is a change in methodology that puts more emphasis on the health and safety of citizens. Still, in the index's subrankings, the United States isn't even in the top 10 for economic fundamentals, safety and security, or governance. We should do better.

White majority countries are on top...um...that is just evil.
