Big Dog, with all due respect, I believe you have misundestimated the situation.

There are two causes for the high oil prices: both from the supply side. It all comes down to basic economics, literally, the last four weeks of basic macro economics. It is about market structure.

When there are few players in the market like with oil suppliers and our beloved oil companies, this market structure is known as an oligopoly or oligopolistic monopoly. You should take a look at the graphs related to this but in comes down to one thing: they have price control.

We need three things. Competition in the two aforementioned areas and less regulation. After that, $1.00/gallon max.

All of you are fogretting that with the US accepting 1 to 2 million people a year coming here such an influx of people put stress on the amount of gas that we consume. Imagine that you have come here from a refugee camp and now you are a protected class getting all welfare benefits and a car.
